Last week, our team visited three villages in Abia State, Nigeria, (Amaokpu, Umuokwa, and Nkpukwa) to deliver food to some of the most vulnerable members of their communities: widows, their children, and elderly men and women with no means of support.
Going door to door, we saw firsthand how these families live. Many are sheltered in deteriorating mud and thatch homes, walls crumbling, roofs barely holding. These aren’t just uncomfortable living conditions. They’re unsafe ones.
Despite the hardship, the warmth we received was overwhelming. Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude to our partners for the food drive. But they also shared a plea, help with shelter. Even temporary relief, they said, would mean the world.
Food keeps people alive today. Safe shelter keeps them alive tomorrow.
We’re grateful to everyone who made this outreach possible. And we’re listening to what these communities need next.
